Jesse Love Battles Back from Nashville Setback, Remains Second in Championship Standings

LEBANON, Tenn. (May 31, 2026) — What looked like a potential race-winning performance for Jesse Love and the No. 2 Whelen Aerospace Technologies (WAT) Chevrolet turned into a lesson in perseverance Saturday night at Nashville Superspeedway.
After qualifying was washed out by rain, NASCAR's rulebook awarded Love the pole position for the Sports Illustrated Resorts 250. The Richard Childress Racing driver wasted no time showing why he earned the top starting spot, leading every lap of Stage One and collecting the maximum 10 stage points.
Love continued to run among the leaders throughout Stage Two, finishing second in the segment and adding another nine valuable championship points. Through the opening two stages, the Whelen Aerospace Technologies Chevrolet had been nearly flawless, positioning itself as one of the cars to beat.
Unfortunately, trouble struck during the final stage when an issue involving the wheel studs forced an unscheduled green-flag pit stop. The lengthy stop dropped Love a lap down and erased what had been a dominant evening.
Refusing to give up, the 2025 NASCAR O'Reilly Auto Parts Series Champion fought his way back through the field over the closing laps, salvaging a 16th-place finish despite the adversity.
"We had a really fast Whelen Aerospace Technologies Chevrolet and did everything right for most of the night," said Love. "It's frustrating when something outside of your control changes the outcome, but I'm proud of the effort from our team. We kept fighting and managed to recover the best finish possible."
The Nashville weekend tested Love's resilience from the very beginning. Pulling double duty between the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series and NASCAR O'Reilly Auto Parts Series, Love saw his Friday night Truck Series effort come to an early end following an on-track incident while driving the No. 77 Delaware Life Chevrolet for Spire Motorsports. Less than 24 hours later, Love responded by earning the pole position through NASCAR's performance metric formula, leading every lap of Stage One and positioning the No. 2 Whelen Aerospace Technologies Chevrolet as one of the fastest cars in the field.
The Nashville result allows Love to maintain second place in the NASCAR O'Reilly Auto Parts Series championship standings, trailing race winner Justin Allgaier as the series heads into an extended break before returning to action at Pocono Raceway on June 13.
Although the final results sheet shows a 16th-place finish, the speed displayed by the No. 2 Whelen Aerospace Technologies Chevrolet throughout the evening reinforced why Love remains one of the top contenders in the championship battle. By maximizing stage points and fighting back after adversity, the team kept its focus on the bigger picture—a championship run that remains very much alive.
For Love and the Richard Childress Racing team, Nashville will likely be remembered as a race of missed opportunity, but also as a reminder of the determination that has kept the No. 2 team near the top of the standings all season long.
