Love Shows Winning Speed, Finishes Sixth at Las Vegas
Las Vegas, NV — Jesse Love, driver of the No. 2 Whelen Engineering Chevrolet for Richard Childress Racing, showcased speed and composure in Saturday’s NASCAR Xfinity Series Playoff race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, leading 22 laps, collecting major stage points, and finishing sixth in a hard-fought battle under the lights.
Love qualified sixth and immediately asserted himself among the frontrunners. He finished third in Stage One and second in Stage Two, demonstrating the strength and consistency of his Whelen Engineering Chevrolet throughout the early portions of the race.
In the final stage, Love continued to battle at the front and was in contention for the win before a late-race restart sparked intense side-by-side racing with Nick Sanchez. The two fought hard for position in the closing laps, with Love ultimately losing momentum and slipping a few spots to bring home a sixth-place finish.
“We had a really fast Whelen Engineering Chevrolet today,” said Love. “Our car handled great through the first two stages, and we were able to lead laps and score solid points. That last restart just didn’t go our way — I was racing hard with Nick [Sanchez] and lost a few spots. I feel like we had a car capable of winning, but overall, it was a strong effort for our team.”
Love entered Las Vegas 2 points below the playoff cutline and leaves 20 points above it, marking a 22-point swing that strengthens his position in the Round of 8 as the series heads to Talladega Superspeedway next weekend.
